Segerstrom Concert Hall & Samueli Theater
The Segerstrom Concert Hall and Samueli Theater is comprised of a new 2000-seat concert hall and 500-seat multi-purpose music hall in Orange County, California. These new facilities are an essential component of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The Concert Hall is organized around a large Plaza of the Arts, adjacent to the existing drop-off area of Segerstrom Hall. The undulating glass facade of the Concert Hall lobby creates dynamic reflections and maximum transparency, reinforcing the connection to the outdoors. It encloses a large multi-tiered lobby space with a custom designed chandelier comprised of LED light fixtures suspended on stainless steel rods and capped with custom-cut crystal diffusers.
Inside the Concert Hall, the curving wood and plaster balcony fronts and the sculptural acoustic canopy convey an organic elegance and warmth to the space that is rich and ideally configured for music.
The expanded Performing Arts Center also houses new facilities for an Education Center, including classrooms, rehearsal rooms, dance studios and administration area. The Education Center offers instruction in the arts to more than 400,000 students each year, ranging in age from kindergarten through high school.
The project received the 2010 Architecture Merit Award from the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.
