Lawrance Hall
Designed in 1886 by Russell Sturgis, Lawrance Hall anchors the eastern edge of Yale’s historic Old Campus and defines the edge of the New Haven Green to the east and Old Campus to the west. Apicella + Bunton Architects undertook a comprehensive exterior and interior renovation of the residence hall suites, home to first-year students.
The work encompassed thoughtful upgrades to the mechanical and life safety systems, enhanced lighting, and architectural improvements to student rooms, restrooms, and stairwells.
The historic brick and stone facades were carefully repaired and repointed, and the slate roof fully replaced. Particular care was devoted to the building’s iconic Victorian Gothic entrances, ensuring their character and craftsmanship were respectfully renewed.
