Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College
Prominently situated near the campus’ main entrance, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College includes exhibition and conservation spaces as well as curatorial and administrative offices. The new structure maintains a unique identity while remaining a part of the visual landscape of Vassar College.
A hexagonal glass pavilion serves as the entrance to the center and is visible from just inside the campus entry. A symbol of the Art Center, the pavilion is connected to the existing art department via a colonnade that creates a new landscaped courtyard for the complex. Galleries are designed to be flexible with modules that can be joined and recombined for changing exhibitions.
The project received many awards including Honor Awards from both the Westchester/Mid-Hudson Chapter and the Connecticut Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, a Certificate of Merit from the State of New York Executive Chamber and a Preservation Award from the Preservation League of New York State.
