804 Chapel Street
New Haven, CT
8,500 sq ft
804 Chapel Street is an elegant example of early 20th century terra cotta-clad architecture. A series of past renovations stripped the structure of its charm by covering and removing many of the building’s intricate original details. In addition, periods of disuse had reduced the building’s interior to a state of significant disrepair.
Apicella + Bunton restored the exterior of this building to its original splendor while completely redeveloping its interior for 21st-century use.
The firm completed a range of restorative processes on the exterior of the building including removing unsightly metal panels, repairing or replacing damaged portions of terra cotta and restoring the building's marble column base. The interior of the building was redesigned to incorporate retail space on the ground floor and spacious residential units on the two floors above with a landscaped, communal deck area on the roof.
